William Wright
Born 5 Feb 1755
By: John Holland
One line of the Wright family I didn't see past Elizur Wright, b. 15 August 1718, was his son that
you listed as William Wright b. 5 Feb 1755. Family tradition states he (William), fought in the
American Revolution under Col. Erastus Wolcott's Connecticut regiment. He was a private in Capt.
Hezikia Wells' 4th Company from Wethersfield, Conn. and occupied Boston after the British evacuated
the town in March of 1776. Also stated as family tradition was that he served as a guard for
General Washington. He married Joanna Inman.
William and Joanna's children are:
- 1. Benjamin Wright - b. 08 Aug 1791 in Sutton, MA; d. 18 Dec 1853 in Winooski, VT. (see below)
- 2. Joanna Wright,
- 3. Susanna Wright,
- 4. Inman Wright,
- 5. William Wright,
- 6. Lydia Wright,
- 7. Thankful Wright,
- 8. Stephen Wright.
Benjamin Wright, son of William Wright and Joanna Inman married Margaret Preavy from Ste. Rosalle,
Quebec, Canada on 1 Sept. 1838. Benjamin Wright died on 18 Dec 1853 in Winooski, VT and Margaret
Preavy died on 28 Dec 1901 in Burlington, VT.
Benjamin and Margaret's children are:
- 1. Ellen Wright b. 10 Apr 1842 in Colchester, Vt.;
- 2. Clarissa Wright b. 01 Dec 1844 in Colchester, Vt. d 22 June 1928 in Rutland, Vt.; (see below)
- 3. Loomis J Wright b. 1847 in Colchester, Vt.;
- 4. Olive Wright b 1849 in Colchester, Vt.;
- 5. George W Wright b 1850 in Colchester Vt.;
- 6. Benjamin S. Wright b. 21 May 1851 in Colchester, Vt. d 6 Feb 1882 in Burlington, Vt.;
- 7. Warren Wright.
Clarissa Wright, b. 1 Dec 1844, d. 22 Jun 1928, married in 1859, Charles Dupaw. They had
several children, one being:
- 1. Mary Elizabeth Dupaw married Albert Holland.
Mary Elizabeth lived to be well into her 90s and I was lucky enough to meet her. I hope you
found this interesting. I had the Wright family line up to Sir John Wright b 1488 but many of
the locations and dates I have are different than yours - for instance I have Sir John as being born
in Brentwood, Essex, England.
Regards,
John Holland
Ed Note:
I do find your information interesting and have added this familly to the Footprints database. I
hope that you will continue this line on down to you. Over the years we have found many
different dates and locations of births and deaths of the Wright Family descendants. We hope to
be able to correct any errors you or anyone else finds. As for Brentwood being the birth place,
that is possible. If I remember right Brentwood is in the district of Wealside. I have a
zerox copy of the Registery of that area and will double check the dates and locations. My
problem at this moment is to try to find the publication in this mess.
