I am not family, but my research concerning the Principio Furnace in Cecil County, MD, has led me to two Wrights, about whom I would love to discover more, and one of them was named Francis Wright. Francis appears up here by 1660 or 61 if not before and was significantly involved in treatment with the Susquehanna Indians. He appears to have died intestate, here about 1673 or 74, precisely at that critical time when the Susquehannas were about to fall so decisively.

Your connection of the Wright and Washington lines interested me because the Principio Furnace was partially owned by the Washingtons, and I have always wondered how they got involved up here. I would greatly appreciate any lead you might be able to give me in this regard. Also a slightly different line of study of mine has a Captain Wright arriving in Virginia in 1682-83 for reasons that were not explained although he appears not to have left Virginia with his companions in '83. I have always suspected that he was connected in Virginia and was returning home, possibly to the Elizabeth River area, or Isle of Wight Co. but I have no first name.. he was a significantly important figure in his realm of endeavor and made inroads for the English in Central America, but he is allowed to retire from the narrative without comment. A fact which peeks my curiosity, naturally. I can not imagine that my little bit of knowledge could be in any way helpful to you but you never know and thought I would offer it, nevertheless.

Naturally I would be grateful if you could open either of these paths for me. Thank you for your efforts, historically and your time in indulging my note.

FOOTPRINTS NOTE: You may want to follow up on the history of Capt Ricahard Wright who married Ann Mottrom. They were the parents of Major Francis Wright who married Ann Washington. Ann's father (John Washington) was the Great Grandfather of President George Washington. There are many that are researching the descendants of Capt Richard Wright. We will try to list them all in the near future as we revise these pages. You will find a number of articles on this line in our Family Research Center.
