William C. McClurg, a resident of Greene county for nearly seventy years,
died at his home in Jefferson on last Friday, following an illness of
about six months with stomach ulcers. About a week ago he commenced to
fail rapidly, causing deep anxiety to both relatives and friends. Mr.
McClurg came to Greene county with his parents during the latter days of
the Civil war, and had seen the development of this part of the state
since pioneer days.
William C. McClurg was born in Davis county, Iowa, February 17th, 1849,
and died at his home in Jefferson November 20, 1831 [1931], at the age of 82
years 9 months and 3 days. At the age of 15 years he moved with his
parents to Greene county where he lived until his death.
The greater portion of his life was given to farming, the most of this
time being spent on his farm in Bristol township, moving from there to the
present home in Jefferson in 1918.
He united with the Church of Christ at the age of 20 years, always
remaining a faithful member. The greater majority of the years of
membership has been in the capacity of elder.
He had no political aspirations - desiring rather to spend his time in a
quiet, reserved manner, devoting his entire life to his family and church.
He was a true husband, loving father and congenial friend.
On October 29th, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa J. Wright.
They observed their 61st wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago. To
this union were born eight children, there being at the present time six
living, two having died in infancy.

E. of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Thenia Lewis of Jefferson, Ira F. of Trenton, Missouri,
