The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Everett C. Dressell, Private First Class, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near
Juvigny, France, August 31, 1918. After his company had captured two enemy fieldpieces and a large quantity of ammunition, enemy artillery
attempted to blow up the ammunition with incendiary shells. At great risk of his life from the explosion of shells and grenades, he extinguished
the fires, thereby insuring the safety of his comrades and the retention by his company of its advanced position.

Obituary
Another of God's "Noblemen" has been called. From the home in which he was born over a half century ago, Frank Jerue has taken his final departure. His family was at
his bed side to bid him a reluctant farewell.
He was a son of Joel and Hulda Jerue and was born March 29th, 1862 and passed on to a higher life Nov. 13, 1920 at the age of 58 years, 7 months and 24 days.
He was married to Ella Werner Feb. 13th, 1882, from this sacred union there were born six children.
During the ministry of Rev. Robbins in 1895 while he was conducting a revival in this church, Mr. Jerue and his life long companion were happily saved and dedicated
their lives to the Lord, from which time his services having been so faithfully rendered, his presence will ever remain in the consciousness of those with whom he
worshiped. His spirit of sacrifice and self denial will long abide. He leaves to mourn their loss, a bereaved wife, and six children: Mrs. Mattie Hadaway, Cleo, Claude,
Leitha Schick, Karol and Elton. One brother, John of Grand Rapids, three sisters; Mrs. Martha Cady and Mrs. Nina Fletcher of Allegan Co, and Mrs. Emma Lafayette of
Muskegon. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild and many more distant relatives, and all who knew him for he was loved and respected by all.
He was in the affliction for over three years, suffering much but trusting more in Him who enables us to believe that although weeping may endure for a night, joy cometh
in the morning.
"Only a moment of dark, a dream of the fleeting night,
And then the beautiful break of day
And the quiet peace of the light,
And we find ourselves where we longed to stand,
In the calm repose of the Fatherland."
The funeral of Frank Jerue Nov. 16, 1920 occurred at one p.m. in the United Brethren Church of Casco and conducted by Rev. Chas. Broughman and assisted by Rev.
Beedle.
Frank Jerue married on February 13, 1882 to Mary
Ellen ‘Ella’ Werner (Warner) born July 4, 1865 in Nevada, Wyandot County, Ohio (daughter of William Thomas
Warner and Mary Catherine Mowery). Mary Ellen ‘Ella’ died about 1939 in Michigan.

Author: Peter Brandl
Date: March 30, 1998
I am seeking information about the Free-Will Baptist Church of the Riga area, Monroe County, NY. William R. Peck, born 1807 in Vermont, was a minister of that church in the early 1800's. On 17 January 1830 he married Lucy Bathrick, daughter of Stephen Bathrick and Catherine Taylor Bachelor. A number of children were born while William lived in the Riga area. Christiana 1831, William Lulon 1833, Philo Thomas 1836, Manser W. 1838, and Dayton S. 1842. I believe the family lived in that area between the 1820's and the 1840's. There seems to be a connection with the town of Sweden. I am very interested in obtaining any information regarding the church, marriage, birth of children or any other possible connections or leads to information in your area. Please respond to me personally (brandl@dwave.net).
