While no specific given names are mentioned, the following page
contains references to the CHEEVES family. "During the past eight years I have been researching many of the
above-named surnames. I have traced many of them frm Jamestown, Accomack
and Northampton Counties, VA, circa 1600s to Robeson and Cumberland Counties,
NC in the late 1700s to the mid to late 1800s when large groups left for
Irwin County, Ga. Some of these families are the following: Townsend,
Taylor, Bass, Bell, Simmons, Barfield, Bryan, Cheeves (also known as
Chavis and Chavous), McLendon, McLeod, Speight, Humphries, Monroe,
Evans, Hamans, Gibbs, Pakul and Brown."

Hello, I am new to the list. [Cheves Mailing List] I wanted to share what I have on
the Cheves of Putnam Co., GA. The primary family that I am researching in Putnam Co is the
Fullers, mainly Simeon Fuller.
I have a land document where Simeon Fuller bought land from the Cheves family
after the death of Thomas Cheves. Simeon paid the heirs of Thomas
Cheves $728.00 for 202 1/2 acres described as follows: tracts or parcel of land (the
grave yard of the space of 20 feet square) situated lying and being in the county of Putnam it
being lots No 374 in the 3rd district of originally Baldwin now Putnam county adjoining land of
John Newsom, John Cheves, Wynn ?. This was dated Jan 13, 1827 and signed
by: John Newsom, Joseph Vardeman, James Brown, J.P., also: Sarah Cheves, Elizabeth
Cheves, John Cheves, J.B. Slaughter, John Acock, Baldwin Norris, Grief
Cheves, agent for Thomas Cheves.
The reason I am reseaching this Cheves family is, I have noticed that wherever I
research the Fullers there is also Cheves. Also one of my Fuller cousin lives on property in
Putnam Co. today that Simeon Fuller's son lived on and in the woods behind the house is a small
cemetery, that is known as the "Indian cemetery". Many of us for years have been trying to find
Simeon Fuller's 1st wife and have failed. So I am just following this lead for now. Simeon was
born in Granville, NC in 1772and moved to GA about 1805-1810. He lived in Putnam from abt
1813 to abt 1850. His first wife died in 1832.
Also one more thing Simeon had a "cousin" in Putnam Co., named Spivey Fuller in the 1850
census for Putnam co., living in his house with him and his family a girl named Sarah
Cheves who is 19 years old.
Well I hope in sharing my info with you, there may be something there someone can use.
Contact me with any info or questions you may have.
Thank you
