Here is some info I received a while back.
- "Elizabeth Weaver, married Thomas J. Cheeves on Dec 9, 1827 in Putnam
County. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary "Polly" (nee: Patman) Weaver. According to
the book "Palmetto, a town and it's people" Thomas and Elizabeth (Weaver) Cheeves lived in
Putnam and Carroll Co's. It doesn't say when Thomas died, however Elizabeth died in 1862."
The following CHEVES, CHEAVES, etc. are listed at:

Someone who had been in Belgium for a time told me there was
a village there, had once had a castle, called Cheves. I have not been
able to locate this on a map, but thought it very interesting!

Once I went to Columbia SC to research and was in the lib. there
just immersed in all the history, forgot my own name.... but a woman
corrected my pronounciation of Cheves.... said they called it Chevess.

I was intersted also in Margaret Jeanne's two posts about Thomas Cheves
father possibly being the brother of Langdon Cheves' ancestor.
