Land of the Free

America is called "land of the free, home of the brave," and that is true in the United States.   What does being free really mean? What is so great about being free in this place we call the United States.   What does 'free' really mean?

The meaning of free in the Webster's New American dictionary says that freedom is: state or condition of being free, not being under another's control: power to do say or speak as one pleases, liberty; ease of movement or action.   Freedom, such a wonderful thing America has.   It does not mean everything is free, but we, the people, have the right to our own unique voice and thought.   We can read books we want to read, watch movies we want to watch, and do other things, too.

America is a beautiful place.   You can't do everything you want, but everyone can go to school and get an education.   You can vote at eighteen, you can drive at sixteen in most states.   You can travel anywhere in America.   You can see beautiful sights if you take the time to do so.   Hopefully, when you stop and notice this amazing place where we live, you will see the beauty and grace that is in each and every state.

In other countries women can't go outside without a man, laugh in public or show any of their skin.   People in other countries are not as fortunate as we are in the United States.   So the next time you see the flag flying high, you should smile and be very proud that you can say you are an American.   As you look at the beautiful flag that stands for unity, you can be reassured that we are one nation, and as our great president, George W. Bush said, "We will not falter."
