If you haven't seen my office, you should take a look to get an
idea of how things happen around here. We seem to jump from one thing to another, not quite
finishing what I had been working on.
Changing the Web Page URL
|
My lap top is an old version and has a small hard drive. I have alwalys wanted to run
the Web Page from the old lap top when taveling. The Web Page with the four letter extension
"HTML" would not run on the lap top. By changing it to the three letter extension "HTM", it
will run directly from the CD. This will also allow me to update my copy while on the road,
then when I get home I can upload it to the Internet. This will allow me to add it to my
Quarterly Issue of the Footprints CD. So, while revamping the web page, I changed all the
extensions and links to ".HTM".
This page, of the Footprints Web Page News will be updated throughout the Month.
Hopefully, I will list all new additions to the Web Page here, as well as any major subjects
that come up.
Our previous use of music required the downloading of a special player if you didn't
already have it. The system now in use, should play the music with any music program that
you already have on your system. It should, but if it does not, and it causes any slow
down or problems, please let me know.
Family Reunions or Gatherings
|
Remember, if you plan to have a reunion or family gathering of any type, we will gladly
post it on these web pages for you in our "Calender of Comming
Events" .
With the rebuilding of the Web Pages, our search engine may not work properly for the
first week or so. The company that provides the search enginge runs a periodic check to
add all names to a list. It may take some time before they run a full complete service on
all the pages. Untill then, the searches may not be complete.
Links within our Web Page as well as those to other Web Pages may not work properly.
If this happens, please let us know, and we will try to correct them as soon as possible.
If you haven't done so, you should visit the Read Me
pages.

Many of us are a little hesitant about receiving attachments via E-Mail. There is a
solution for this. Having been hit by a virus that destroyed my computer, I am very
hesitant and will open them only under certain conditions.
With windows, you can open more than one program at a time. A file can be typed in
just about any Word Processor, or Note Pad and copied to your e-mail as part of the
message. This would eliminate the use of an attachment.
Open your word processor or note pad and write your note, make your charts or what
ever. Hightlight and copy the file. Then open your e-mail start your message and then
paste in the file you had copied. This eliminates the need for an attachment.
Note: We will open NO e-mail attachments that do not
include your name and e-mail address
in the "body" of the note.
Submitting Photographs - Outlook and other e-mail programs allow you to include
photos in the body of the message. Use this where possible.
Photos may be submitted as attachments. However we will not open an attachment unless:
- We know and have been in contact with the sender.
- You send a note to DonWright@footprints.org letting us know they are being sent.
- You add a note to the e-mail describing the photos and include your name and ID.

Adding Your Family History
|
Your Family History is important to us, as well as any stories that help describe
the history. Most all of our information on the Web Page as well as in the Footprints
database and in our files has been submitted by our readers. Continuous input of new
information and data is vital to our files.
Most important, with the history, we need your first and last name
and e-mail address. (Included in the body of the message).
You may submit your history via e-mail. Place "History" in the subject line.
Send to: Webmaster@footprints.org .
Many times when I add a page on the Web Site, I locate it in the proper location for that
particular family. Then later I find that it does not fit properly and must be relocated. In reality, it
doesn't have to be moved, but we have to renumber it which makes it easier to find when I need
to make changes.
By bookmarking the Home Page, you will never loose your connections to the Web Site. If
the individual page that you have bookmarked changes, you will still be able to find it through the
Home Page.
